Abstract

Plusieurs enquêtes effectuées depuis une trentaine d’années sur les parasites gastro-intestinaux du dromadaire ont montré des taux d’infestation élevés par Haemonchus longistipes. Certaines études ont également relevé l’importance clinique et économique de l’haemonchose cameline. L’auteur propose une synthèse des connaissances acquises sur cette maladie majeure pour le dromadaire et largement sous-estimée auparavant. Les éléments connus chez le dromadaire, ou pouvant être déduits de l’haemonchose du mouton beaucoup mieux étudié, sont présentés pour le parasite et son cycle, l’épidémiologie, la pathogénie, les symptômes et lésions, le diagnostic, le traitement et, en conclusion, les possibilités de prophylaxie. L’auteur insiste sur le caractère saisonnier de cette parasitose, les facteurs favorisants des infestations, le syndrome anémie-cachexie plus ou moins marqué selon les formes observées, le diagnostic différentiel, souvent difficile à établir, et la disponibilité d’un certain nombre de médicaments actifs. Une lutte contre cette maladie doit prendre en compte les particularités du mode d’élevage du dromadaire, et doit s’appuyer en grande partie sur les éleveurs.
