Amélioration des pâturages. Le Brachiaria brizantha

Abstract

Le Brachiaria brizantha est cultivé dans des zones écologiquement très différentes. Dans chacune de ces zones, ses qualités de rusticité, d'adaptation à la sécheresse, et ses facultés de propagation en font une espèce fourragère particulièrement adaptée à la diffusion du pâturage artificiel en milieu rural. Sa culture est facile, et son exploitation n'exige pas de précautions spéciales, résistant très bien au pâturage, il se fane et s'ensile aisément. En fin de saison sèche, la persistance de la couleur verte en fait une espèce très recherchée du bétail. Il permet la mise en place d'associations avec d'autres graminées et des légumineuses, aussi bien en plateau qu'en bas-fond. Très bien adaptée aux terres du Moyen-Ouest malgache, il est appelé à jouer un rôle important dans l'évolution de l'élevage vers un mode semi-intensif
