Abstract

Sammendrag Lengre yrkeskarrierer og økt sysselsetting blant eldre er et viktig politisk mål, men dette gjenspeiles ikke nødvendigvis i arbeidsgiveres holdninger og praksis. Mange eldre møter barrierer på arbeidsmarkedet, særlig når de søker ny jobb. Dermed er det viktig å forstå hvorfor ledere er skeptiske til å ansette eldre. I denne artikkelen undersøker vi sammenhengen mellom ulike typer av holdninger som ledere har til eldre arbeidstakere, og ved hvilken alder de nøler med å innkalle en kvalifisert søker til intervju, her kalt Alder for skepsis til intervju. Analysene er basert på Norsk seniorpolitisk barometer 2021, der om lag 1200 ledere i private og offentlige virksomheter ble intervjuet. Ledere med positive oppfatninger av eldre arbeidstakere oppgir gjennomgående en høyere Alder for skepsis til intervju enn de med negative holdninger. Det er særlig ledere med svært negative holdninger som oppgir en lavere Alder for skepsis til intervju. Disse utgjør gjerne relativt få. Blant holdningene som har stor betydning, finner vi både stereotypiske forestillinger om eldre, og mer smaksbasert/affektiv alderisme. Funnene tyder på at hvis vi skal nå målet om lengre yrkeskarrierer, må vi konfrontere lederes forestillinger om hva som kjennetegner eldre arbeidstakere, og dessuten øke innsatsen mot smaksbasert diskriminering.
