Der vorliegende Beitrag skizziert die wesentlichen Diskussionslinien der Tagung "Qualitative Inhaltsanalyse – and beyond?". Als übergeordnete Fragestellung kristallisierte sich heraus, ob der Rückgriff auf andere Verfahren – wie die Grounded-Theory-Methodologie oder die Diskursanalyse – zu einer Elaboration der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse im Sinne eines "Werkzeugkastens" methodologisch legitim sei. In diesem Zusammenhang und mit Blick auf bestehende Stärken und Weiterentwicklungspotenziale der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse wurden zudem Fragen nach deren analytischer Reichweite sowie zu den Bedingungen des Verstehens und der Notwendigkeit einer Hintergrundtheorie diskutiert.
