Abstract

Este trabajo es una contribución al conocimiento de la embriología de las cactáceas y a la definición de sus estructuras reproductoras. Se describe el desarrollo de anteras, óvulos y semillas de Pachycereus militaris. El desarrollo de la pared de la antera es monocotiledóneo. Este podría ser un carácter con valor taxonómico a nivel suprafamiliar. El endotecio está formado por un estrato y el polen es tricolpado, equinulado y punctitegilado. Se observó una tríada lineal de megasporas. La megaspora funcional es la calazal. Se propone que el término campilótropo se use para describir el tipo de óvulo y el de circinótropo para el funículo. Contrariamente a lo sostenido por otros autores, se plantea que las semillas de Pachycereus militaris deben considerarse como no albuminosas y no perispérmicas.
