Abstract

A história do movimento republicano no Rio Grande do Sul é indissociável da análise da influência das ideias positivistas na província e de sua conexão com o abolicionismo. O presente capítulo procura fornecer substratos para a compreensão da relação entre abolicionismo, republicanismo e positivismo, centrando a análise nas fontes primárias da história intelectual gaúcha, especificamente em monografias, artigos de periódicos e discursos. A proposta deste trabalho é estabelecer uma leitura atenta de como o plano das ideias influenciou o debate político rio-grandense a partir da década de 1880, tendo como foco o trânsito e a circulação de ideias positivistas.
