Abstract

Durante el rectorado del Dr. Javier Prado, 1919, se funda el Museo de Arqueología y Etnología, a pedido del maestro Julio C. Tello, entonces catedrático de la Universidad, en vista a los hallazgos de la “Primera Expedición Arqueológica de la Universidad de San Marcos al Departamento de Ancash”, luego con las dotaciones de su propiedad y las primeras muestras arqueológicas recogidas, se amplió la colección, además, con la compra de otras piezas de propiedad particular. En consecuencia el Consejo Universitario lo reconoció y fundó el 21 de octubre del mismo año.
