En este trabajo se expone lo que es el involucramiento en el proceso educativo y su relación con la permanencia en secundaria y el bienestar de la población adolescente. Se describen los tres tipos de involucramiento que se han identificado (conductual, emocional y cognitivo) y las condiciones contextuales para favorecerlos. Se especifican factores institucionales y prácticas educativas que promueven el involucramiento, enfatizando en la importancia de la transmisión de altas expectativas acompañadas de los apoyos requeridos para el logro de las metas de la totalidad del estudiantado.Descriptores: involucramiento, permanencia en secundaria, desarrollo saludable, igualdad de oportunidades, adolescencia. Male and Female Student Involvement in the Educative ProcessThis paper discusses student engagement and how it relates to school completion and adolescents’ well-being. Three types of student engagement (behavioral, emotional, and cognitive) are described, as well as the environmental conditions that promote them. School factors and educational practices that favor engagement are mentioned, emphasizing on the importance of high expectations accompanied by the supports needed for goal attainment of all students.Keywords: Engagement, school completion, healthy development, equal opportunities, adolescence.
