Abstract

3–5 sentences, or around 120 words and no more than 200 words The Protestant faith came to Eastern and Southern Europe in two main waves: through the Reformation or through 18th- and 19th-century missionaries. They remain a minority faith tradition and tend to be clustered among particular geographical areas or ethnic groups. In Southern Europe, the Protestant proportion of the population is estimated at 0.6%, while in Eastern Europe, this figure is 2.7%. The place of Protestantism in society varies throughout the region, but the common factor is a high level of conviction among those who choose to belong to a minority, but deeply grounded, community of faith.
