Abstract

Cet article étudie deux pièces anglaises mettant en scène des femmes soldats, qu’elles se soulèvent contre les hommes (The Lady Errant) ou que, femmes du royaume de la Réforme, elles combattent victorieusement l’armée du royaume de la sédition (Bell in Campo). Dans la première, les objets de l’héroïsme, impuissants à définir un véritable héroïsme féminin, sont tournés en ridicule ; dans la seconde, les heroickesses sont les dernières dépositaires d’un héroïsme dont les hommes ne sont plus capables.
