ABSTRACT: This article investigates the most recent historical productions which give Africa and the Diaspora another role in the formation of the Modern and the Atlantic World. The victimization characteristic, which has always been projected to Central and Western Africa, has been taken away. These recent productions indicate a new historical trend in which the African experiences and the Diaspora influence the construction of the culture, the modern mentality and the formation of Brazil. The old paradigm of thinking modernity from the point of view of the European State Nation and its unilateral expansion gives place to a new focus; in which the Atlantic space and history are founded on the basis of experiences marked by a diversity of situations, environments, negotiations, cartographies, resistances and memories. Keywords: Africa, Diaspora, Brazil and the Atlantic World.
