Abstract

Cadornega e Cavazzi pertenciam a lugares sociais diferentes. Palavras-chave: Cavazzi; Cadornega; África Centro-Ocidental ABSTRACT: This article uses two classical sources for the study of the West-Central Africa during the 17th century: the Descrição histórica dos três reinos do Congo, Matamba e Angola, written by Giovanni Antonio Cavazzi, and the História geral das guerras angolanas, written by Antonio de Oliveira de Cadornega. We demonstrate the similarities and differences in research method-methodologies and writing undertaken by these two authors and create hypotheses for the circulation of these texts. Cadornega and Cavazzi belonged to different social places. While one was a military, and Portuguese New Christian, the other was an Italian missionary, probably, from a noble family. Thus, the characteristics of texts and their goals as authors are important to think about the similarities and differences in their speeches. However, in spite of the differences, Cavazzi and Cadornega demonstrate the intention to register the deeds of the institutions that they represented by creating a memory based on their own personal efforts in Africa. Keywords: Cavazzi; Cadornega; West-Central Africa
