Abstract

Venezia, secondo una definizione molto usata e, forse, talvolta abusata, rappresenta «un altro mondo», la cui diversità nei confronti degli aspetti e delle caratteristiche delle comunità sviluppatisi nell’immediato retroterra, la cosiddetta «Terraferma», risulta evidente in tutta la sua lunga vicenda storica, da qualunque punto di vista essa si prenda in considerazione. Ciò risulta vero anche sul piano della produzione documentaria. Pur appartenendo alla tradizione «romanica», di radice bizantina, come del resto altre realtà della penisola italiana, il ducato veneziano ha, infatti, compiuto un percorso diverso rispetto a esse, che l’ha condotto a differenziarsi non solo dal territorio veneto di radice longobarda ma anche dalla stessa Bisanzio, i cui influssi risultano in effetti alquanto modesti.
