
The Wehrmacht established Stalag 332 on April 15, 1941, in Defense District (Wehrkreis) II.1 From October 1941 to May 1943, the camp deployed to Viljandi (German: Fellin) (map 9a), in Estonia.2 While there, the camp had a subcamp (Nebenlager) in Põltsamaa (German: Oberpahlen). Records indicate that the camp was still in operation as of September 7, 1943; the date on which the Wehrmacht disbanded it is unknown.3 Stalag 332 received field post number (Feldpostnummer) 13 263 between July 12, 1941, and January 26, 1942. The number was struck on February 12, 1945. Starting on August 17, 1941, the camp was subordinate to the Armed Forces Commander Ostland (Wehrmachtbefehlshaber Ostland). On October 17, 1941, it was reassigned to the 207th Security Division (Sicherungsdivision), which was in turn subordinate to the Army Group North Rear Area Command (Befehlshaber des rückwärtigen Heeresgebiets Nord).4 The camp commandant was Major Faust.
