Abolição e sociabilidades diplomáticas

Abstract

Este texto está inserido nos debates associados ao que foi, grosso modo, o abolicionismo e o fim da escravidão no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, mais especificamente, no alto da serra fluminense, em Petrópolis. A proposta é discutir os momentos finais da escravidão na cidade, atentando para as movimentações abolicionistas de 1888, e às dinâmicas mobilizadas pelas elites na legitimação e manutenção do poder. A partir de fontes de tipologias variadas, sob a guarda do Museu Imperial e Fundação Biblioteca Nacional, percorreremos as festas, concertos e bailes ocorridos em Petrópolis em prol da abolição, com o foco na presença de diplomatas e nos interesses em torno disso. Abordaremos, portanto, o que significou a sociabilidade diplomática nos momentos finais da ordem escravista em Petrópolis.
