Abstract

Bir koy ve bu koyun ardında yer alan tepe üzerinde kurulan Rize Ka- lesi, Fatih Sultan Mehmed’in 1461’de Trabzon’u fethiyle Osmanlı Dev- leti sınırlarına dâhil olmuştur. Fethin akabinde bölgede yapılan tahriri müteakip kale içine nüfus iskân ettirilmiş, askerî olarak da kale güç- lendirmişti. Bununla birlikte Trabzon ve Gönye sancakları arasında daha az ehemmiyetli bir konumda yer alan Rize Kalesi, özellikle Gür- cistan tarafından gelen ve Karadeniz boyunda eşkıyalık faaliyetleri yürüten Abaza ve Gürcü saldırıları sonrasında ehemmiyetli bir konu- ma yükselmişti. Bu çalışma da, Rize Kalesi’nin konumu ve ehemmiyeti üzerinde durularak, kalede yapılan tamiratlar ile kaleye sevk edilen mühimmat hakkında bilgi verilecektir. Ayrıca kalede vazife yapan baş- ta dizdar olmak üzere diğer kale görevlileri hakkında değerlendirme- lerde bulunulacaktır.
