Abstract

El trabajo publicado en Medicina Clínica en 2006, aborda las dermatofitosis, infecciones fúngicas de la piel causadas por dermatofitos. El artículo se centra en las dermatofitosis cutáneas, proporcionando información sobre su etiología (causa), epidemiología (distribución y prevalencia) y manifestaciones clínicas (síntomas y signos). Los dermatofitos, hongos que pueden infectar la piel, el cabello y las uñas, son la principal causa de las dermatofitosis. Se discuten las especies de dermatofitos más comunes y sus características. Se analiza la prevalencia de las dermatofitosis en diferentes regiones geográficas y grupos de población, así como los factores de riesgo asociados, como la edad, el género, el clima y las condiciones socioeconómicas. También se describen los diversos síntomas y signos de las dermatofitosis cutáneas, que pueden incluir lesiones cutáneas como eritema (enrojecimiento), descamación, prurito (picazón) y la formación de placas circulares con bordes elevados.
