SIR, — I was interested in the recent paper by [Coe and others (2006)][1] comparing flank and midline approaches to the ovariohysterectomy of cats. I was surprised that a 2·5 cm incision was used for the flank approach. I would regard a 1 cm incision as more usual; one advantage of the technique
