Auf den Spuren des Surrealismus in Walter Benjamins Passagen-Werk

Abstract

Dem Surrealismus ist nämlich Benjamins Methode der literarischen Montage verpflichtet und selbst die Idee der Verflechtung von Mythos und technischer Technologie, die Anschauung, dass der Mythos selbst mitten in der Epoche der technischen Errungenschaften seine unheimliche Wiederkehr machen kann, lässt sich – wenn auch über verwickelte Umwege – auf die Surrealisten zurückführen. Diese waren tatsächlich die ersten gewesen, die aus den fragmentarischen Übrigbleibseln der veralteten Technologie die Spuren der Zukunft herablesen konnten. Die wichtigsten Spuren des Surrealismus sind im Passagen-Werk in den Konvoluten über das unterirdische Paris, in Baudelaire-Konvolut und schließlich in denjenigen, die sich mit der Theorie des Aufwachens befassen. In der surrealistischen profanen Erleuchtung verschmelzen nach Benjamin die revolutionäre und uralte Utopie einer klassenlosen Gesellschaft und die Reaktivierung der dichterischen Einbildungskraft.
