BRIDGING THE GENERATIONS: SUCCESSION AND INHERITANCE IN A CHANGING WORLD

Abstract

Cet article analyse des observations partielles concernant la succession, l'heritage et la division du patrimoine. Il montre l'evolution des systemes de transfert de la responsabilite de gestion et des droits de propriete en Grande Bretagne : la division du patrimoine qui conduisait a l'installation des fils comme exploitants independants cede la place a l'incorporation des fils dans l'entreprise familiale. Mais le changement demographique et l'emergence de valeurs individualistes plutot que collectives pourraient saper cette solidarite de l'entreprise familiale. Et les femmes sont nettement victimes dans ce regime de succession et d'heritage : elles ne peuvent heriter qu'a condition que le processus « normal » de transfert de propriete entre generations en vienne a echouer. En guise de conclusion, l'A. avance qu'une meilleure comprehension des relations entre sexes et entre generations dans l'agriculture suppose une analyse des processus de socialisation qui modelent, chez les enfants d'agriculteurs, leurs visions du monde, leurs representations et aspirations professionnelles
