The manuscript considers the historical and definitional relationship between social psychology and applied social psychology. It is concluded that a sharp distinction was an artifact of a temporary orientation of basic social psychology and that, at present, a definitional separation is unnecessary and unwise. Applied social psychology is viewed as the application of social psychological science at its best toward the understanding and potential resolution of social and societal problems.
