How many people, even those interested in the Earth sciences, have heard of perovskite? Yet minerals with the perovskite structure are the most abundant minerals on the Earth with a corresponding importance for our understanding of the origin, development and functioning of our planet. Furthermore, they play important roles in modern technology, including the storage of nuclear waste, in solar cells and as superconductors.
