Fractal video compression

Abstract

Techniques based on fractal geometry and the fractal transform yield a method for compressing video images which is independent of screen resolution and aspect ratio and provides incremental improvement over time for slowly varying images. It is (nearly) randomly accessible and transmission errors die out over time. Decompression with this system is extremely fast and, in fact, real-time decompression has been realized in software. Fractal video compression has the ability to display a single compressed image at a variety of screen resolutions where the rescaling is intrinsic to the representation. >
