A computer program was devised for the purpose of performing a simultaneous comparative evaluation of the Model S Coulter Counter and the Technicon SMA-7A. The computer assistance made it possible to examine the results from 500 patient specimens grouped in ranges of values for each of seven blood parameters. Details of the computer program are given and some of the findings of the evaluation are presented. It is hoped that more generalized computer utilization in instrumental evaluation will provide laboratory directors with complete assessments of the performance of individual instruments in a shorter period of time than is now possible.
