Benzyne reacts as a dienophil with 1-vinylnaphthalene and 3-vinylbenzo[b]-thiophen, and similarly 1,2-naphthyne reacts with 1-vinylnaphthalene and 1,1'-bicyclohexenyl, to give otherwise inaccessible polynuclear aromatic molecules.
