We have studied multiphoton absorption in three-dimensional (RbMnCl3, CsMnCl3) and quasi-two-dimensional (NaMnCl3, BaMnF4, and [CH2(NH3)2CH] MnCl4) layered antiferromagnets for temperatures from 2–20.4 K. We observe that the nonlinearity in the absorption process is not the same in the various crystals, and depends on the intensity of the transmitted light in some of them. A relationship between the observed phenomena and the crystal structure is demonstrated.
