Abstract

The article reports the development of micron-sized magnetic beads that can be used to pull diseases from the human bloodstream. The success of a model system developed by a team led by biologist Donald E. Ingber of Harvard Medical School and his postdoctoral fellow Chong Wing Yung is noted, mentioning that the system was able to remove sepsis-causing bacteria or fungi mix from patients' blood using magnetic beads.
