THERE are very few reports on the necessity of boron for the growth of lower plants. Koffler et al.1 found that borax increased the penicillin yields of submerged corn-steep cultures of Penicillium as well as cultures of Penicillium in synthetic medium. No definite requirement by algae for boron has yet been shown2.
