Liquidus temperatures in the calcium carbonate-calcium hydroxide-calcium oxide and calcium carbonate-calcium sulfate-calcium sulfide ternary systems. 1

Abstract

In the CO/sub 2/ Acceptor Process for gasifying lignite char, CaO is regenerated and recycled. Liquidus temperatures were established as a function of composition and water pressure for the CaCO/sub 3/-Ca(OH)/sub 2/-CaO system. Water pressures in the range of 1.7 to 7.0 MPa were involved in this study. The melts formed under these conditions contain appreciable amounts of CaO; values observed range from 2.25 to 5.25 mol %. The CaO content of the melt decreases with water pressure and increases with the Ca(OH)/sub 2/ level of the system. The variation of the liquidus temperature with the CaCO/sub 3/ content of the melt indicates that the eutectic composition in the CaCO/sub 3/-Ca(OH)/sub 2/ system is approximately 40 mol % CaCO/sub 3/ which is consistent with the results presented by previous investigators.
