Since 1971, significant deviations from the classic pattern of chronic granulomatous disease have been recognized, and the disease appears to be more common that it did formerly. Knowledge of the basic underlying molecular defect has been broadened, and some new concepts of diagnosis and management have been formed. This report summarizes new knowledge of this important disorder.
