Abstract Naphthyridine and acridinedione coordinated ruthenium (II) complexes were synthesized and characterized. Their applications in dye-sensitized solar cells were demonstrated. From the I – V curves, the short-circuit photocurrent ( I SC ) and the open-circuit photovoltage ( V OC ) were measured. A maximum current conversion efficiency ( η ) of about 7.7% was obtained for 5-amino-4-phenyl-2-(4-methylphenyl)-7-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)-1,6-naphthyridine-8-carbonitrile ( pmpn ) coordinated ruthenium (II) complex.
