The immunomodulatory and regenerative capacity of these cells represent a promising therapeutic potential solution; however, results in animal models and some clinical series, so far, have not been without controversy by side effects and ethical considerations. A review of the various aspects of mesenchymal cells and their potential therapeutic benefit in neonatology, in the context of damage mechanisms involved in these children, as well as elements associated discussion is presented.
