Tratamiento del insomnio

Abstract

Resumen Introduccion El insomnio es el trastorno del sueno mas frecuente, pudiendo presentarse en el 30-40% de la poblacion en algun momento de la vida. El 75% de los casos de insomnio son secundarios a otros trastornos (principalmente psiquiatricos) y el 25% es primario (origen desconocido). Sintomatologia Provoca sintomas nocturnos y diurnos como somnolencia, cansancio, problemas de concentracion y atencion, irritabilidad y disminucion del rendimiento laboral y familiar en quien lo sufre, con gran repercusion sobre la calidad de vida. Diagnostico El diagnostico se fundamenta en una historia clinica completa. Tratamiento El tratamiento mas completo y eficaz incluye medidas higienicas combinadas con tratamientos farmacologicos y psicoterapeuticos. Los farmacos mas empleados en el tratamiento del insomnio son las benzodiacepinas y los farmacos agonistas del receptor de benzodiacepinas no benzodiacepinicos. Entre los tratamientos psicoterapeuticos destaca la terapia cognitivo conductual, la terapia de control de estimulos, la terapia de restriccion del sueno y las terapias de relajacion.
