Abstract

Riassunto La distonia e un disturbo del movimento caratterizzato dalla co-contrazione di muscoli agonisti e antagonisti che frequentemente causa movimenti ripetitivi di tipo torsionale o l’assunzione di posture anomale. Tale condizione puo causare disabilita motoria severa e influire negativamente sullo sviluppo cognitivo, comportamentale e su un adeguato inserimento sociale. La terapia medica permette un miglioramento clinico spesso parziale; sono stati pertanto proposti e sviluppati trattamenti chirurgici come la pallidotomia o la stimolazione cerebrale profonda, che offrono la possibilita di un adeguato controllo della distonia farmacoresistente.
