This chapter reviews the reliability for fire pumps, controllers, drivers, and gearboxes. How the reliability can be predicted through fault tree analysis and single point failures is described. The types of failures and history of failures are examined and the most probable types of failures are presented. External services that can fail are also mentioned, which include plant utility services and commercial power sources. The justification for multiple fire pumps as backups is highlighted.
