Abstract These neoplasms are a rather rare complication occurring some years following irradiation of the uterus for either benign conditions or for carcinoma of the cervix. Sixteen cases are reported, of which 11 were adenocarcinoma of the endometrium, 3 were carcinosarcoma, and 2 were mixed mesodermal tumors of the uterus. The average age of the patients was 54.7 years. Irradiation had been used for benign conditions in 5 cases and for squamous carcinoma of the cervix in 11. The average time interval between irradiation and the development of the uterine neoplasm was 11.8 years. Possibly irradiation was less a factor in the adenocarcinomas than in the carcinosarcomas and mixed mesodermal tumors, but no conclusion is warranted in such a small series of cases.
