Comparison of a Highly Sensitive Rabbit Brain Thromboplastin, Dade Thromboplastin FS, with a Human Brain Thromboplastin, Manchester Comparative Thromboplastin

Abstract

A few years ago, a field trial was carried out in which a large number of plasma samples (100 normals, 806 anticoagulated patients, as well as patients with deficiencies of the factors II, V, VII and X) were tested with a newly developed rabbit brain thromboplastin (Thromboplastin FS) and with Human Brain Thromboplastin prepared by Prof. Duckert in Basel (1). Both reagents behaved similarly over the whole range of measurement (fig. 1). The “calibration constant” (according to the concept of Biggs and Denson) of Thromboplastin FS relative to Human Brain Thromboplastin Basel was determined with 0.986.
