AbstractThe synthesis and some properties of polymeric heterocycles as well as the latest results in the area of soluble conducting polymers are reviewed. Polyheterocycles with long chain substituents exhibit unusual properties in solution while retaining a relatively high conductivity in the solid state. All known methods for the preparation of conducting polymers are presented and their merits discussed. Among the insoluble polymers, the electrochemical methods are still the best because they afford films on a large variety of substrates.
