This study aimed at determining the relations betweenspectral and bird species rarefaction curves in a brutian pine forest ecosystemlocated in the Fethiye region, Turkey. Bird species were counted by fieldworkin 40 sample plots with 0.81 ha (90 x 90 m). The NDVITOA values of pixelsbelonging to each plot (pixel numbers are 36, 81 and 324 for Aster, SPOT andRapidEye, respectively) were calculated. Spectral and bird species rarefactioncurves were formed by means of EstimatesS software. The relations betweenspectral and bird species rarefaction curves were examined using regressionanalyses. Furthermore, the similarities of rarefaction curves were determinedconsidering “increase rate” of curves. The results of study showed that thereare serious differences between spectral and bird species rarefaction curvesand bird species rarefaction curve was not predicted using satellite images inthis region. It is considered that similar studies could be conducted on a widegeographic region using coarse resolution satellite data in order to understandthe potentials of spectral rarefaction curves more clearly.
