The Effects of Project Based Learning with the Extracurricular Practice on Secondary School Students

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of outdoor school project-based learning approach on 6th grade students' scientific process skills and science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) attitudes. working group of the study at a state secondary school in Turkey are a total of 56 students in two different classes. The research was carried out in the second semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. In the research, semi-experimental pattern with pretest-posttest control group was used. Apart from the current curriculum, the outdoor school project-based learning approach was applied to the experimental group, and only the current curriculum was applied to the control group. Scientific process skills and STEM attitude scale were applied as pre-test and at the end of the application, the same tests were applied as post-test. Findings obtained from the study show that the experimental group has a higher average in terms of scientific process skills and STEM attitude scale compared to the control group and a significant difference has occurred.
