FEATURES OF POST-TRAUMATIC GROWTH OF MILITARY SERVANTS WITH DIFFERENT COMBAT EXPERIENCE

FEATURES OF POST-TRAUMATIC GROWTH OF MILITARY SERVANTS WITH DIFFERENT COMBAT EXPERIENCE

Abstract

Іntroduction. The theoretical and empirical developments known today on the issue of post-traumatic personality growth are still fragmentary. The specifics of the development and manifestation of PTSD in military personnel with different experience in war conditions remain insufficiently studied and require further research. Purpose. Studying the features of positive psychological changes in military personnel as a result of their experience in war. Methods. The following were used for the study: Posttraumatic Growth Inventory - Extended (PTGI-X); Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Screening Questionnaire by N. Breslau et al.; Giessen Somatic Complaints Questionnaire; Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10; Self-Efficacy Scale by R. Schwarzer and M. Jerusalem; Short Five-Factor Personality Questionnaire by TIPI. An author's questionnaire was also used to obtain information on other characteristics of the subjects important for the study. Mathematical and statistical processing of quantitative results was carried out using descriptive statistics methods (M, SD, %), Student's t-test for independent samples, Pearson's correlation coefficient r, and testing for normality of the distribution of the obtained data by asymmetry (Skewness) and kurtosis. Since the vast majority of diagnostic indicators had a distribution close to normal according to the last two statistical indicators, parametric statistical methods were used. Originality. The peculiarities of the emergence and manifestation of PTSD in different categories of military personnel in the process of their military professional activities have been determined. The results obtained will allow improving psychological work with military personnel and promoting the development of PTSD in them. Conclusion. Post-traumatic growth in military personnel occurs regardless of the specific type of traumatic event, but its severity varies depending on the depth of the experience. At the same time, the level of post-traumatic growth can change under the influence of both individual and group factors, which indicates the need to take into account the socio-cultural context and the characteristics of traumatic experiences during rehabilitation measures. Based on the data obtained, future studies can focus on a detailed study of the relationships between personal characteristics, physical health and the process of post-traumatic growth. This will help to develop more effective recovery, rehabilitation and socio-psychological support programs for military personnel, which will contribute not only to their recovery, but also to an increase in the overall level of psychological well-being.
