This concept unites various aspects of emotional experience, their expression, perception and meaning in different cultures and languages. The emotional conceptosphere is a system of concepts that covers various emotional states and experiences of a person, as well as the language and cultural symbols through which these emotions are expressed and interpreted in different social contexts. This term is often used in the context of linguistics, psychology and cultural studies, and it aims to study how emotions are formed, how they are expressed in language and how they are understood in different cultures. Various types of metaphors have been used to depict the emotion of pain. The metaphor of a container has been identified as one that characterizes pain both as a container and a content. It has been established that the frequency of describing pain as a container is much lower than its depiction as a content. Pain can be metaphorically represented both as a container and as a content. Pain in Gothic novels is described within the limits of space (PAIN — FORWARD, PAIN — BACK, PAIN — UP / TOP, PAIN — DOWN / BELOW/ UNDER, PAIN — IN, PAIN — OUT, PAIN — INSIDE. PAIN — OUTSIDE). The space where this particular emotion resides is a living being. Getting into the human being’s body, PAIN spreads, first of all, to the vital organs that are most essential for human’s existence (“chest”, “head”, “stomach”), making it impossible for the organism to function properly. The ability of PAIN to exist inside the organism for a long time (“in”, “into”) and to spread (“through”) from a certain point indicates its property to be found anywhere, creating negative emotions and feelings that cause a general gloomy state of the being.

Потрапляючи в організм істоти, БІЛЬ поширюється, в першу чергу, на життєво важливі органи, які є найсуттєвішими для існування людини («chest», «head», «stomach»), унеможливлюючи правильне функціонування організму. Можливість БОЛЮ тривалий час існувати всередині організму («in», «into») та розповсюджуватись («through») від певної точки вказує на його властивість до знаходження будь-де, утворюючи негативні емоції та відчуття, які спричиняють загальний похмурий стан істоти.
