The article highlights the domains in educational enlightenment that I. Yushchuk carried out between 1987 and 2017. It is noted that in todayʼs situation the historical and pedagogical problems in Ukraine are getting increased attention. It is emphasized that by researching pedagogical personalitiesʼ biography, scholars could rediscover how national education and foundations of Ukrainian statehood have been formed. It allows establishing the chronology, causes and consequences of specific events, as well as recreating a certain historical period. The article defines the concepts of educational enlightenment and activity domains. It is concluded that enlightenment leads to social progress and depends on how education is disseminated. Thus, the goal of enlightening is to provide advanced ideas for individuals to grow spiritually, to expand the horizons, and to think critically. It is emphasized that an educational domain encompasses specific actions within a certain topic and certain tasks. I. Yushchukʼs biography has never been researched before. A well-known Ukrainian linguist, literary critic, teacher, translator of Serbian, Croatian, Lusatian and Slovenian writers, professor, author of more than thirty textbooks and thirty teaching manuals into the Ukrainian language, I. Yushchuk promoted Ukraine and its national language, bringing to light Ukraineʼs rich heritage. He is the author of the grammar-fantasy story “Three on the Moon” and the childrenʼs story “Someday in the Morning”. Besides he is titled as Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine. He was also one of the founders of the Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko Enlightenment society and a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine. As a researcher he investigated the 1932–1933 Holodomor-genocide. He was awarded the All-Ukrainian Borys Grinchenko Prize, All-Ukrainian Ivan Ohienko Prize and Dmytro Nytchenko Prize. I. Yushchukʼs biographical facts allowed distinguishing eight domains that his educational enlightenment activity can be classified into. It is emphasized that the educational enlightenment of I. Yushchuk is a bright page of his biography that has a positive impact on the Ukrainian society of that time and was aimed at establishing the Ukrainian language in all spheres of social life.

У статті висвітлено аспекти просвітницької діяльності І. Ющука та її напрямів. Зазначено, що в умовах сьогодення спостерігається підвищена увага вчених до історико-педагогічних проблем нашої держави. Наголошено, що вивчення, осмислення й перепрочитання біографії і творчого шляху педагогічних персоналій є надзвичайно важливим. Подано визначення понять “просвітництво”, “просвітницька діяльність” і “напрям діяльності”. Зазначено, що просвітництво є ідеєю залежності суспільного прогресу від поширення освіти, а просвітницька робота ставить перед собою ціль “просвітити”, надати певні знання, передові ідеї особистості, які допомогли б їй зростати духовно. Наголошено, що напрям діяльності є конкретним видом дій у межах певної галузі, який спрямований на виконання певних завдань. Висвітлено напрями просвітницької діяльності І. Ющука – відомого українського мовознавця, літературознавця, педагога перекладача творів сербських, хорватських, лужицьких і словенських письменників, професора, автора понад тридцяти підручників і тридцяти навчальних посібників із української мови. На основі біографічних фактів педагога виокремлено вісім напрямів просвітницької діяльності мовознавця. Коротко схарактеризовано кожен із них.
