THE ROLE OF A SPEECH THERAPIST IN A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM WHEN WORKING WITH CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

THE ROLE OF A SPEECH THERAPIST IN A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM WHEN WORKING WITH CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Abstract

At the current stage of the development of integration processes in education, the problem of forming speech activity, developing speech communication skills in children with special educational needs, and adapting them to the conditions of a general education school has become a priority. The rehabilitation space is constantly expanding, which necessitates wide coverage of different categories of children with inclusion. In addition, the need for comprehensive support and accompaniment of children with various types of disabilities of different age groups is increasingly being recognized. The solution to this problem is primarily associated with the implementation of individual, differentiated and phased corrective speech therapy. The study focuses on analyzing the role of the speech therapist in the multidisciplinary concept of working with children with inclusion. The article substantiates that timely organized psychological and pedagogical assistance in the context of a multidisciplinary approach can prevent the emergence of subsequent deviations in the development of a child and ensure the maximum realization of his or her rehabilitation potential. The study found that, in order to successfully integrate a child with special educational needs into the social environment, it is necessary to effectively diagnose specific aspects of the development of his or her speech sphere at an early stage of development in order to provide effective specialized correctional assistance. It is proved that the process of supporting children with speech disorders is a purposeful, organized system of specialists’ activities to ensure optimal conditions for the development of children with inclusion in accordance with their individual and age characteristics, and the leading role in this context belongs to speech therapists.
