USE OF BLENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IN SELF-EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF MEDICAL STUDENTS

USE OF BLENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IN SELF-EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract

The article delves into certain aspects of blended learning. This educational approach, which gained significant relevance in the 20s of the 21st century, has been recognized for its effectiveness in creating the most effective conditions for self-directed learning, particularly among medical students. Blended learning is built on the combination and integration of digital technologies and classroom learning. Its use determines which type of educational activity will be the most effective when performed individually by a group of students or with a teacher in the classroom, and which one will be more successful when implemented in a digital environment. The specific blend varies based on the student group, academic program, or educational institution. The article reviews and explains various models of blended learning, including the Flipped Classroom, Face-to-Face Driver Model, Rotation Models, and the Flex Model. It evaluates their potential to support self-educational endeavors. The article pays close attention to the numerous benefits and unique aspects of blended learning in the context of students’ self-education. Among these benefits, the author highlights: enhanced student engagement and focus on studies, deeper immersion in the subject matter, experience in project-based and research activities, fostering individual learning trajectory, promotion of self-education and self-control, and development of interactive skills and reflective practices. The article reviews and explains various models of blended learning, including the Flipped Classroom, Face-to-Face Driver Model, Rotation Models, and the Flex Model. It also evaluates their potential to support self-educational endeavors. Specifically, these models offer experiences in information research and application, provide a possibility of in-depth study, boost student engagement, enable students’ self-control, promote collaborative learning and teaching, transition the teacher's role to that of an instructor, coach, or facilitator, customize professional development plans, and foster interaction and cooperation.
