Ontological approach to the organization of information interaction of existing and created automated systems in the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Abstract

The creation and use of information and automated control systems is of great importance for increasing the real capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the existing systems, primarily DRMIS (Defense Resource Management Information Systems) and C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance), are largely unconnected and operate separately. The aim of the study is to show the expediency of using the ontology to ensure information interaction between automated systems (AS) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The ontological approach to solving the problem of organizing information interaction of heterogeneous AS is to create universal, cross-platform information structures that use semantic metadescriptions of data, both their own and add-ons to existing ones. Moreover, in addition to solving interaction issues, the development of ontologies will provide an opportunity to create procedures for logical inference, i.e. machine-generated new (implicit) conclusions based on existing facts and the relationship between them, The investigation analyzes the development of information models, on the basis of which tools for converting data formats during information exchange can be created. The descriptions of the model of the domain-oriented ontology and algorithms for the operation of the control functions of the main entities of the ontology are given. The general scheme of the semantic model of interaction of heterogeneous AS is presented. It is proposed to use the internal formats of the integration bus for intermediate data conversion when exchanging data between different AS. The MIP JC3IEDM data model for information exchange for management, control and consultation (NATO standard STANAG 5525) has been worked out and recommended for use in the information model of interaction between DRMIS and C4ISR systems. The purpose of this standard is to ensure the compatibility of information systems at all levels of command and control when conducting joint multinational operations. The considered model of a domain-specific ontology in automated information systems for collecting, processing and analyzing heterogeneous data is proposed for consideration and use in developing a system that ensures the interaction of AS DRMIS and C4ISR.
