LIVER SEGMENTECTOMY WITH ENDOVASCULAR CONTRAST ENHANCEMENT OF THE SEGMENT

Abstract

This paper is dedicated to the problem of integrating minimal invasive techniques into surgical hepatology. The authors have developed and anatomically substantiated liver segmentectomy with endovascular catheter contrast enhancement of the segment. Contrast enhancement and anatomical liver segment resection is realized after Swan-Ganz catheter insertion into the proper segmental branch of the portal vein, its oclussion with a catheter balloon and methylene blue solution perfusion. Theclinical use of the new technique may be promising in patients with diminished liver functional reserves.
