Abstract
<jats:p>This paper is an investigation into the reliability and stochastic properties of three-state networks. We consider a single-step network consisting of <jats:italic>n</jats:italic> links and we assume that the links are subject to failure. We assume that the network can be in three states, <jats:italic>up</jats:italic> (<jats:italic>K</jats:italic> = 2), <jats:italic>partial performance</jats:italic> (<jats:italic>K</jats:italic> = 1), and <jats:italic>down</jats:italic> (<jats:italic>K</jats:italic> = 0).
