Abstract
EnglishIn December 2015, the floods hit the city of Chennai, southern India, reviving the debate over the future of two urban rivers, Cooum and Adyar. Far from the figure of the sacred Indian river, these waterways, devoid of religious meanings, have historically remained marginal to the development of the city. The flood reveals the river of possibilities. Some "bourgeois" interest groups then seize on the environmental issue to promote their visions of the river to come.
