[6] VSCPT is in fact a manifestation of the 'coherence population trapping' effect, discovered in Pisa, Italy in 1976 [G. Alzetta, A. Gozzini, L. Moi, G. Orriols, 1976, Nuovo Cimento B 36, 5]. This effect has found other interesting applications in the domain of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) that has driven novel phenomena like lasing without inversion or the realization of ultrahight refractive index atomic media (see, e.g., S. E. Harris, Phys. Today, July 1997, p. 36).
